Wreaths Across America
– December 14, 2024
LIVE WITH PURPOSE!
Join us in Somers for our 2024 Wreaths Across America Ceremony
National Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday, December 14, 2024, at NOON at the Somers Center Cemetery, 81 Battle St., Somers, CT.
This free public event honors veterans and their families by placing wreaths on the graves of fallen heroes and at other meaningful sites.
The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs’ objective is to reach 2,000 sponsored wreaths for the event.
If you wish to get involved, please visit our sponsorship link: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/CT0131P – Town of Somers Cemeteries. You can sponsor a wreath to honor and remember our military personnel laid to rest in one of Somers, CT’s three cemeteries.
Please note that you can sponsor a wreath specific to a grave. This guarantees that your loved one will receive a remembrance wreath, even if we do not meet our goal of at least 2,000 wreaths. During the 2024 ceremony, wreaths were randomly placed on the graves of servicemembers across our three cemeteries due to insufficient sponsored wreaths for every grave (there are over 2,000 military gravesites in Somers).
On Wreaths Across America Day, even if our goal is not reached, volunteers will stand before each identified service member’s grave and honor them by stating their name, rank, and branch of service aloud, expressing gratitude for their service. This small act carries great significance, reminding us of the sacrifices made by those who serve.
For additional information on how to volunteer locally or sponsor a wreath for an American hero, please visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/CT0131P – Group Name: Town of Somers Cemeteries.
